Job summary

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking a Housing Options Officer to provide advice and assistance to people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness across the authority. You will assess housing needs, develop plans and help people secure suitable housing.

Hybrid role with office work in Kingswood, home working and site visits. A DBS check is required, travel across the authority is expected, and you will collaborate with partners to deliver homelessness services.

Qualifications

• Experience housing options work with vulnerable people.
• Knowledge of Housing Act 1996 Part VII and tenancy law.
• Ability to assess housing needs and determine options.

Responsibilities

• Carry out assessments to determine housing needs, preferences and options and develop an action plan.
• Prevent homelessness or assist secure alternative housing by evaluating complex cases and eligibility for prevention schemes.
• Assess eligibility for homelessness duties and issue decisions where appropriate.
• Maintain regular contact, coordinate multi-agency approaches and participate in multi-agency conferences.
• Communicate effectively, manage competing priorities and travel as required.
