Job summary

UC Merced is seeking a Director of Housing Services & Business Operations to lead campus housing strategy, occupancy and budget for a $65M+ auxiliary portfolio. You will supervise staff, optimize StarRez usage, and align housing operations with student success goals.

You will partner with Residence Education and other stakeholders to deliver holistic residential support, ensure policy compliance, and drive growth in housing services while maintaining exemplary service levels across the campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area from an accredited institution; advanced degree preferred.
• Five years of related experience in student housing management; or nine years in lieu of degree (required).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including skills in communicating processes and policies to diverse audiences.
• Advanced knowledge of housing management systems (StarRez, Residence, eRezLife, etc.).
• Experience managing financial responsibilities and/or budget oversight.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership: Advise senior leadership on housing demand; participate in budget and planning as part of the leadership team.
• Develop strategic plans for Housing Services to support growth, service expansion, and evolving student needs.
• Direct supervision of staff with recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and escalation of concerns.
• Occupancy Management: Manage StarRez housing system; process housing applications and agreements; plan room assignments.
• Business Operations & Budget: Develop housing rates from market data; oversee annual auxiliary budget; manage marketing materials.
