Job summary

Genesee County Housing Division is seeking an inspector to support the Home Improvement and Weatherization Programs. Responsibilities include inspections, energy audits, cost estimates, and ensuring adherence to MDHHS and HUD rules.

Requires an associate degree in building/construction technology, construction management, engineering, or related field, or two years of related construction experience. A valid driver’s license and certifications must be obtained within 6–9 months.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or two years of related field experience in housing/weatherization or construction.
• Two (2) years of experience in home construction, weatherization, rehabilitation services, or related field, preferably with housing rehab or weatherization for low-income individuals.

Responsibilities

• Inspects properties to determine eligibility for repairs or weatherization assistance per program rules.
• Prepares work write-ups and bid specs in line with HUD and County rules; performs energy audits per DOE and MDHHS rules.
• Prepares accurate cost estimates and provides homeowner education on energy efficiency.
• Monitors job progress and addresses potential problems; reviews contractor work for quality and adherence to contract terms.
• Acts as liaison with contractor, homeowner and program staff; maintains inspection records for each property.
