Job summary

Ali Forney Center is seeking a Housing Daytime Program Supervisor to oversee daily operations of housing programs in Manhattan and Brooklyn, including services for transgender and gender-expansive youth experiencing homelessness.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed, inclusive leadership, staff supervision, crisis management, and coordination with care teams.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential, shelter, supportive housing, transitional living or youth serving programs.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience including coaching, scheduling and overseeing youth-facing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage monthly & daily staff schedules ensuring full shift coverage.
  • Provide direct supervision to Youth Counselors and supervise Resident Advocates.
  • Oversee daily operations, food and supply tracking, and work order follow ups.
  • Lead real-time crisis intervention and address resident concerns with proper documentation.
  • Attend and lead treatment teams, staff meetings, and updates with the Director of Housing Programs.
  • Provide on-call support from 7am–7pm on scheduled workdays.

POSITION SUMMARYThe Housing Daytime Program Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of assigned housing programs, including programs serving transgender and gender-expansive youth experiencing homelessness. This position plays a critical leadership role in creating a safe, affirming, trauma-informed, and inclusive environment that supports the well-being, dignity, and independence of LGBTQ+ young people.SCHEDULE: Sunday- Thursday or Tuesday - SaturdayLOCATION: Manhattan and BrooklynKEY RESPONSIBILITIESStaffing & SchedulingCreate and manage monthly & daily staff schedulesEnsure all shifts are fully covered; coordinate call outs and last minute coverageParticipate in hiring, onboarding and training of Youth CounselorsProvide direct supervision to Resident Advocates (7am-3pm & 3pm-11pm)Supervision & Staff DevelopmentConduct regular supervision with Youth CounselorsProvide real time coaching and guidanceAddress staff performance concerns and escalate as neededDaily OperationsEnsure sites are safe, stocked, clean and functionalOversee food and supply tracking/ordering in collaboration with the Operations TeamEnsure work orders are submitted and followed up onMaintain smooth day to day program flowResident Support & Crisis ManagementLead real-time crisis intervention and de-escalationAddress resident concerns, grievances & conflictsEnsure residents are connected to services and engaging with care teamsProvide immediate response to incidents and ensure proper documentationAdministrative OversightEnsure completion and accuracy of:Log booksIncident reportsResident chartsGroup notes & bindersSupport audit preparation and compliance processesCommunication & CoordinationServe as main point of contact for daily program updatesCommunicate key issues to Director of Housing ProgramsParticipate/lead treatment team & staff meetingsOn-Call RequirementsProvide on-call support from 7am-7pm on scheduled workdaysQUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum of two (2) years of experience in residential, shelter, supportive housing, transitional living or youth serving programsMinimum of one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience including coaching, scheduling and overseeing youth-facing staffPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience working with LGBTQIA+ youth, young adults experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populationsKnowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, positive youth development and crisis intervention modelsExperience participating in hiring, onboarding and training of direct care staffExperience supporting compliance activities, audits and quality assurance processesFamiliarity with residential housing regulations, documentation standards and program operationsBilingual or multilingual skills are a plusWORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDSPrimarily works in a 24 hour residential housing environmentFrequently walks throughout the site to monitor safety, conduct room checks and support staff and residentsWill be required to respond to behavioral crises, emergencies and other high-pressure situations requiring sound judgment and timely decision-makingOccasionally lifts and moves supplies weighing up to 25 pounds and assists with maintaining an organized program environmentMust be able to travel between housing sites as neededCORE & ROLE-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESAFC Core Competencies (examples)Mission alignment and commitment to affirming, youth-centered practiceCultural humility and ability to work effectively with diverse LGBTQ+ youth populationsTrauma-informed, strengths-based approach to service delivery and collaborationClear communication, professionalism, and accountabilityAdaptability, sound judgment, and ability to respond calmly in fast-paced environmentsRole-Related Competencies (examples)Provides clear direction, coaching, accountability and support to Youth CounselorsEffectively manages staffing, scheduling, coverage and overall program operationsResponds calmly and confidently to emergencies while exercising sound independent judgmentMaintains effective communication with staff, leadership and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of carePromotes a safe, respectful, trauma-informed and affirming environment that supports resident well being and engagementBENEFITS & TOTAL REWARDSMedical, Dental, and Vision Insurance401(k) with up to a 5% employer match (vested after five years)Generous Paid Time Off, Sick Leave, Personal Leave, and 12 Paid HolidaysEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Professional Development OpportunitiesMission-driven, inclusive workplace culture
