Job summary

The Ali Forney Center (AFC) protects LGBTQ+ youth from homelessness and helps them build the tools needed to live independently. AFC provides housing, healthcare, and educational support to thousands of youth each year, creating an affirming, supportive environment where LGBTQ+ youth can thrive.

The Housing Program Coordinator role supports day-to-day operations across housing programs, serving as a central point of coordination between staff and leadership, ensuring accurate information,

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience providing administrative, operational, programmatic or coordination support in a residential housing, nonprofit or social services environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and administrative systems simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate information clearly and professionally across multiple levels of an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain & organize: Client charts, Log Books, Incident report binders, Group notes & program documentation.
  • Track & manage OMNY cards, petty cash & check requests.
  • Support data entry and reporting needs.
  • Support Director of Housing Programs with calendar management & scheduling.
  • Manage inventory tracking (food, supplies, program materials).
  • Submit & follow up on IT and facilities work orders.
  • Ensure sites remain stocked and organized.
  • Support scheduling of groups & activities.
  • Assist with intake preparation & orientation logistics.
  • Help coordinate training and meetings.
  • Work with Youth Counselors on creation of groups/activities.
  • Provide shift coverage as needed.
  • Support staff during high-need periods or gaps while maintaining primary administrative responsibilities.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between program staff and housing leadership to promote clear, timely and consistent communication.

Position Summary

The Housing Program Coordinator provides administrative, operational and communication support to ensure day-to-day functioning of assigned housing programs. This role serves as a central point of coordination between program staff and leadership, helping to ensure information is communicated accurately, operational needs are addressed proactively and program expectations are consistently implemented. By managing administrative systems, supporting program logistics and strengthening communication, the Program Coordinator allows leadership to focus on supervision, resident outcomes and program quality while promoting collaboration across the Housing team.

Key Responsibilities
Administrative Coordination

  • Provide shift coverage as needed.
  • Support staff during high-need periods or gaps while maintaining primary administrative responsibilities.
Communication & Team Coordination
  • Serve as a communication liaison between program staff (Youth Counselors, Social Workers, Case Managers, etc) and housing leadership to promote clear, timely and consistent communication.
  • Help identify communication gaps and ensure important resident or operational information is shared with the appropriate team members.
  • Follow up on action items discussed during treatment team meetings, staff meetings and care conferences.
  • Promote collaboration across departments by ensuring operational information is communicated efficiently.
Program Staff Support
  • Act as a readily accessible operational resource for program staff by helping navigate program procedures, locating resources and coordinating follow-up on non-clinical concerns.
  • Support staff in obtaining the tools, supplies and information needed to perform their responsibilities effectively.
  • Assist with onboarding and orientation of new staff by reinforcing operational workflows and program expectations.
Resident Engagement Support
  • Assist with group facilitation as needed.
  • Attend Care Coordination meetings to distribute resident information to appropriate housing teams.
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in LGBTQIA+ affirming housing, shelter, transitional living, supportive housing or youth-serving programs.
  • Experience coordinating meetings, trainings, groups, activities, orientations or other program events.
  • Experience with inventory management, purchasing, petty cash, supply coordination, work orders or other operational processes.
  • Experience serving as a communication liaison or bridge between frontline staff and organizational leadership.
  • Familiarity with DYCD, HUD or other regulatory and compliance requirements related to housing or social service programs.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQIA+ youth homelessness, trauma-informed care, harm reduction and positive youth development.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Work is primarily performed in residential housing program settings and administrative office environments.
  • Regular interaction with residents, Youth Counselors, and other program staff.
  • Will be required to travel between housing program sites, attend meetings and provide support across multiple locations.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking and moving throughout residential and office environments.
  • Requires the ability to use a computer, telephone, mobile device and other standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • May occasionally be required to lift, carry or move supplies, program materials, food and other items weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to navigate stairs and move throughout resident facilities as needed.
  • Occasional evening, weekend, holiday or schedule flexibility may be required based on program needs.
