Job summary

The Ali Forney Center seeks a Housing Daytime Program Supervisor to oversee daily operations of housing programs for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness in Manhattan and Brooklyn. This leadership role emphasizes safety, trauma-informed practice, and an affirming environment.

Key duties include staffing, supervision, crisis intervention, documentation, and collaboration with care teams and the Director of Housing Programs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential, shelter, supportive housing, transitional living or youth serving programs.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience including coaching, scheduling and overseeing youth-facing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage monthly & daily staff schedules.
  • Ensure all shifts are fully covered; coordinate call outs and last minute coverage.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding and training of Youth Counselors.
  • Provide direct supervision to Resident Advocates (7am-3pm & 3pm-11pm).
  • Conduct regular supervision with Youth Counselors.
  • Provide real time coaching and guidance.
  • Address staff performance concerns and elevate as needed.
  • Ensure sites are safe, stocked, clean and functional.
  • Oversee food and supply tracking/ordering in collaboration with the Operations Team.
  • Ensure work orders are submitted and followed up on.
  • Maintain smooth day to day program flow.
  • Lead real-time crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Address resident concerns, grievances & conflicts.
  • Ensure residents are connected to services and engaging with care teams.
  • Provide immediate response to incidents and ensure proper documentation.
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of: Log books, Incident reports, Resident charts, Group notes & binders.
  • Support audit preparation and compliance processes.
  • Serve as main point of contact for daily program updates.
  • Communicate key issues to Director of Housing Programs.
  • Participate/lead treatment team & staff meetings.
  • Provide on-call support from 7am-7pm on scheduled workdays.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Housing Daytime Program Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of assigned housing programs, including programs serving transgender and gender-expansive youth experiencing homelessness. This position plays a critical leadership role in creating a safe, affirming, trauma-informed, and inclusive environment that supports the well-being, dignity, and independence of LGBTQ+ young people.

Sunday- Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday

LOCATION

Manhattan and Brooklyn

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Staffing & Scheduling

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in residential, shelter, supportive housing, transitional living or youth serving programs
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience including coaching, scheduling and overseeing youth-facing staff
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with LGBTQIA+ youth, young adults experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, positive youth development and crisis intervention models
  • Experience participating in hiring, onboarding and training of direct care staff
  • Experience supporting compliance activities, audits and quality assurance processes
  • Familiarity with residential housing regulations, documentation standards and program operations
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Primarily works in a 24 hour residential housing environment
  • Frequently walks throughout the site to monitor safety, conduct room checks and support staff and residents
  • Will be required to respond to behavioral crises, emergencies and other high-pressure situations requiring sound judgment and timely decision-making
  • Occasionally lifts and moves supplies weighing up to 25 pounds and assists with maintaining an organized program environment
  • Must be able to travel between housing sites as needed
