Job summary

Lantern Community Services in the Bronx seeks an experienced Housing Specialist to support clients in securing permanent housing and increasing self-sufficiency. You will work with shelter and case management staff to guide clients through housing searches, applications, and appointments.

Based at Hudson Bay, this full-time role includes one evening shift and weekend coverage. Candidates should have at least two years in housing placement and be comfortable serving homeless or vulnerable

Qualifications

• Two years of housing placement experience required.
• Experience with homelessness, mental health, or substance use disorders preferred.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations and strong relationship-building is essential.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing intake and assessment interviews for new clients.
• Ensure DHS timelines are met for permanent housing placement.
• Assist with completing housing plans and required documentation.
• Support Case Managers with HRA-2010E applications.
• Prepare housing reports and collect data for funders.
• Facilitate client workshops on housing processes and budgeting/credit education.
• Educate clients on subsidies, vouchers, and benefits.
• Escort clients to apartment viewings and housing-related appointments.
• Support move-out and transition to permanent housing.
• Document housing counseling, referrals, escorts, and discharge planning.
• Participate in housing meetings and required trainings.
