Job summary

Lantern Community Services in Jamaica, Queens is seeking an experienced Housing Specialist to help clients secure permanent housing and increase self-sufficiency. You will work with shelter and case management staff to guide clients through housing searches, applications, and lease signings.

The role requires strong interpersonal skills and flexibility for evenings or weekends. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred, and experience with homeless populations is valued.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to housing application and placement.
• Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or low-income populations.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
• Ability to work evening and/or weekend shifts on a rotating schedule.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing intake and assessment interviews for new clients.
• Assist clients with housing search, applications, and interviews.
• Escort clients to apartment viewings and housing-related appointments.
• Support move-out and transition to permanent housing.
• Prepare housing reports and collect data for funders.
• Develop housing resources and educate clients on subsidies, vouchers, and benefits.
• Document counseling, referrals, escorts, and discharge planning activities.
