Housing & Neighborhood Services focuses on creating vibrant, diverse neighborhoods through the delivery of five major service areas: Community Engagement, which works to create successful neighborhoods where people of diverse backgrounds and incomes can build successful lives; Code Enforcement, which works to improve the appearance of communities and maintain standards of living; Housing Services, which provides housing and other programs and services for families residing in the City of Charlotte; CharMeck311, which provides important information and services for customers in the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County; and the Office of Youth Opportunities, which works with youth and young adults in the community to provide resources and opportunities for growth and upward mobility.

The Neighborhood Services Projects Coordinator manages a portfolio of place-based projects designed to support neighborhood stability, economic mobility, and community revitalization across Charlotte. This role combines project management, cross-departmental coordination, stakeholder engagement, and data-informed planning to advance projects from concept through implementation. The position works with residents, businesses, community organizations, City departments, and other partners to align investments with local needs and deliver measurable community benefits.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the coordination and management of a portfolio of neighborhood-focused projects by developing scopes, work plans, schedules, milestones, budgets, and deliverables and by working closely with internal staff, consultants, contractors, community partners, and other stakeholders to move projects forward in a timely manner while maintaining strong customer service.
• Manage place-based initiatives that may include neighborhood revitalization, public-realm and infrastructure improvements, placemaking, community facilities, commercial corridor support, neighborhood stabilization, capacity-building, and other projects intended to improve quality of life and expand access to opportunity.
• Build and maintain effective partnerships with residents, neighborhood and business organizations, community-based organizations, property owners, institutions, private-sector partners, and local, state, and federal agencies involved in project planning and implementation.
• Plan and support meaningful community engagement throughout the project lifecycle, including public meetings, focus groups, presentations, stakeholder briefings, and other outreach activities; document feedback and incorporate community input into project strategies and decisions as appropriate.
• Monitor project implementation through regular coordination, site visits, progress reviews, and documentation of project status; track risks, dependencies, timelines, milestones, and deliverables and identify or upscale issues requiring resolution.
• Coordinate project administration, including procurement and contracting activities, review and processing of invoices, budget and expenditure tracking, maintenance of project files, and compliance with applicable City policies, funding requirements, and record-keeping standards.
• Prepare project reports, presentations, briefing materials, and status updates for department leadership, elected officials, community stakeholders, and partner organizations; communicate project goals, progress, challenges, and outcomes in a clear and accessible manner.
• Support problem solving and implementation of community-led solutions by connecting neighborhoods and partners to appropriate programs, technical assistance, funding opportunities, and City or external resources.
• Research best practices and innovative approaches to guide solutions to complex neighborhood challenges.
• Participate on interdepartmental teams, collaborative boards, committees, and special initiatives as assigned, and perform other related project management and community development work as required.
