Job summary

The YMCA of the North Shore in Beverly, MA is hiring a Facilities Technician – Housing to perform routine maintenance and safety inspections across housing properties and multiple YMCA locations.

You'll handle plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repairs, complete apartment turnovers, and coordinate with residents and staff to prioritize needs. Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 lbs are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 5–10 years in facilities or residential maintenance incl. plumbing/electrical/HVAC.
• Familiarity with housing codes and fire safety regulations.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC.
• Complete apartment turnovers including painting and patches.
• Conduct preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Maintain outdoor areas: landscaping, snow removal, sidewalk safety.
• Respond to urgent maintenance requests and document work.
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors.
• Communicate with residents and staff to prioritize maintenance needs.

Are you a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in keeping buildings safe and well-maintained? The YMCA of the North Shore is looking for a Facilities Technician – Housing to support our housing properties and other YMCA locations.

What You'll Do

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and general building repairs.


• Complete apartment turnovers, including painting, patching, caulking, and minor repairs.


• Conduct preventive maintenance and inspect units and common areas for safety concerns.


• Maintain outdoor areas, including landscaping, snow removal, and sidewalk safety.


• Respond to urgent maintenance requests and document completed work.


• Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies, and coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed.


• Communicate with residents and staff to coordinate maintenance needs and priorities.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED/HiSET, or equivalent experience required.


• 5–10 years of experience in facilities or residential maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.


• Familiarity with housing codes, fire safety regulations, and building maintenance standards.


• Ability to troubleshoot issues, work independently, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.


• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.


• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical maintenance tasks.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Ability to bend, twist, climb stairs, reach, and lift as needed.


• Ability to navigate multi-level buildings and uneven indoor and outdoor surfaces.


• Ability to stand and move for extended periods.


• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.


• Visual and auditory ability to recognize and respond to urgent or emergencies.


• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required for travel between YMCA locations.
