Job summary

The San Francisco LGBT Community Center in San Francisco seeks a Financial Services Counselor to lead and support housing and financial education programs for LGBTQ+ participants.

You will provide one-on-one counseling, conduct intake and needs assessments, assist with budgeting and action plans, and deliver workshops with partners.

Bilingual skills and HUD Housing Counselor Certification are highly desired; confidentiality, adaptability, and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Cultural humility and commitment to transgender community.

• HUD Housing Counselor certification highly desired.

• Detail-oriented and able to complete paperwork accurately and promptly.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, and support housing and financial services programs.
• Plan and evaluate the First Time Homebuyer Program and Rental Program.
• Provide one-on-one financial counseling to first-time homebuyers, renters, and other participants.
• Conduct participant intakes, assessments, eligibility reviews, and needs identification.
• Assess participants’ financial situations, goals, and needs.
• Assist participants with budgeting, financial goals, and written action plans.
• Provide ongoing support, problem-solving assistance, and case management.
• Provide information and referrals on bankruptcy, collections, court judgments, credit education, credit reports, housing issues, and consumer protection laws.
• Explain credit report ratings and protection laws.
• Maintain thorough records and conduct client follow-up to support HUD certification.
• Assist with quarterly reporting requirements.
• Design and implement initiatives that build participants’ financial security.
• Integrate housing programs with financial counseling, small business programs, departments, and external partners.
• Develop and implement outreach and marketing strategies.
• Support recruitment, supervision, and training of interns, volunteers, and consultants.
• Maintain relationships with funders including HomeSF, the Mayor’s Office of Housing, BALANCE, and institutional funders.
• Coordinate and facilitate monthly first-time homebuyer, rental, and financial literacy workshops.
• Build partnerships with Center staff and collaborative agencies.
• Represent the agency at housing and financial services meetings and events.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with program statistics and narratives.
• Participate as a member of the Financial Services team.
• Support additional Financial Services activities and general Center functions.
• Work primarily from the Center’s 1800 Market Street office, with occasional local travel and infrequent negotiable out-of-town travel.
