TITLE: Housing Counselor (Focus Rental Counseling)

REPORTS TO: SR/Housing Programs Manager

GRADE: 4 ($46-58K annually) Full Time, 35 hours per week

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Primarily responsible for promoting asset-building, housing stability, and self-sufficiency by providing families or individual clients with financial and housing counseling and/or coaching related to financial, homeownership, and rental opportunities. Position require[s] financial and housing counseling skills; positions often have a secondary focus on first-time homeownership, financial education/coaching, rental counseling, or foreclosure prevention. Services are provided through one-on-one counseling sessions, mentoring/advocating, and group presentations

EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in a related field with two years of relevant experience or masters degree in social work or related field with one year of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. A minimum of 6 months work experience in housing, asset building, or financial capabilities is required.

CERTIFICATION:

Within 6 months of hire date, must pass the HUD Housing Counselor Certification Exam administered by HUD (if not already certified).

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience in housing counseling and financial education. Strong commitment to helping others achieve self-sufficiency and housing stability. Ability to work compassionately and respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds. Ability to manage time and accomplish independent projects and research. Must be prepared to work some evenings and occasional weekends. Reliable transportation and a valid drivers license are required.
