Job summary

State of Washington, Department of Commerce, seeks a Communications Coordinator to manage Multifamily Housing Unit communications, develop quarterly newsletters, and support data-driven program reporting. The role reports to the Managing Director and collaborates with internal teams and external partners.

The position involves coordinating meetings, managing websites, and generating reports from CMS/HCMS, with emphasis on inclusive community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Six (6) years of combined professional experience, lived experience and/or education in housing/finance/real estate with at least two focus areas.
  • Experience in affordable housing, housing finance, real estate/lending, community or economic development.
  • Understanding of multifamily/rental housing development and lending and related documents.
  • Understanding affordable housing finance, including layered financing using private and public funds, tax credits, and partnership structures.
  • Education involves housing finance, business, public administration or related field; qualifying education may substitute year-for-year for experience.
  • Lived experience with housing instability or related public systems can substitute for one year of education/experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with annual legislative report and communications related to data collection.
  • Assist with implementation of special projects or provisos per Legislature/Commerce.
  • Develop meeting logistics, agendas, and support stakeholder meetings for MHU.
  • Train staff and external partners on media tools to create documents and reports.
  • Implement communications as provided by MD and MHU team members.
  • Develop quarterly newsletter with program announcements and accomplishments.
  • Develop briefing materials and reports to support MHU operations.
  • Prepare data analysis and evaluation of program databases and guidelines.
  • Respond to questions on MHU programs and track until resolved.
  • Manage MHU website information to keep applicants and partners informed.
  • Generate reports from CMS and HCMS databases for communications queries.
  • Ensure inclusive community engagement practices.
  • Maintain distribution lists relevant to projects.
  • May back up the Unit AA3 when needed.
