Job summary

Polk County is seeking a Housing/Code Enforcement Inspector to evaluate residential properties for repairs, inspect systems, and prepare bid packets. You will coordinate with homeowners, contractors, and county departments to ensure compliance with codes and program requirements.

The role involves travel to remote sites, reading blueprints, calculating estimates, and maintaining accurate records. A lead-safe certification is required within six months and a post-offer physical is conducted.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Two years of college or technical training in Construction Technology, or related field.
• Two years of experience in residential construction, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or related field.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• Lead Safe Renovator certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conducts home visits to inspect and evaluate homes for repairs.
• Inspects electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems for compliance with codes.
• Prepares cost estimates and bid packets; reviews feasibility of projects.
• Coordinate with homeowners and contractors; supports open houses and contract execution.
• Review contractor payment requests and maintain records.
