Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred in civil technology or construction management.
• Three years of code enforcement experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read, understand and interpret code books, maps, policies and reports.
• Ability to speak before an audience with poise and clear English.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook; GIS knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

• Obtain permission to enter dwellings from owners and tenants.
• Visually inspect areas to verify compliance with heating, lighting, plumbing installations.
• Measure dwelling units to ensure space requirements are met.
• Inspect premises for cleanliness and vermin indicators.
• Prepare notices of violation and outline correction timelines.
• Review case reports and re-inspect dwellings for corrections.
• Explain Property Maintenance Codes to owners and contractors.
• Possibly take legal action by writing citations and testifying in court.
• Coordinate with City departments on property issues.
• Review and approve building permit submittals and conduct inspections.
• Keep detailed records with photos; perform rental/sale inspections.
• Maintain records of judgments and assist with recovery of expenses.
