The

The Housing Building Manager (HBM), reporting to the Assistant Director, Housing Operations, oversees daily upkeep, maintenance, custodial operations, safety, and building support for assigned Student Housing facilities, serving as a local liaison across R&DE, Residential Education, and Graduate Life staff.

Supervision & Staffing:

Supervise, train, evaluate, and mentor bargaining-unit custodial and temporary staff, including scheduling, performance accountability, and safety/ergonomic training.

Facility Management & Oversight:

Manage cleanliness, inspections, work orders, security, and emergency response; coordinate accessibility modifications, student turnovers, and summer conference housing; partner with fire/life-safety and project teams; and help manage facility budgets, supplies, and inventory.

This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.

Job Purpose

Oversee and manage assigned staff engaged in facilities management or building/equipment maintenance.

Additional Core Duties Of Housing Building Manager

• Serve on assigned committees and task forces.
• Serve on a rotational after-hours, week-long duty supervisor rotation, 2-3 times per year.
• Participate in professional development to stay current with the field and implement best practices.
• Work with, at times lead, R&DE Student Housing programs and initiatives.
• Cover and support campus colleagues as needed for back-up facility coverage.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

• Demonstrated ability to utilize technology in support of facilities management (work order systems, spreadsheets, trend analysis, etc.).
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously on projects and initiatives, producing accurate results within tight timelines and with limited resources.
• May work evenings and weekends, typically during operationally peak periods and/or in response to urgent or emergency related scenarios.
• As an exempt employee, respond to “after hours” and “weekend” outreach by R&DE senior leadership.
• Preferred: Possess a valid CA driver’s license.
• Preferred: Experience in working in a higher education residential academic environment.

The budgeted pay range for this position is $103,104 - $109,000 per annum.

Responsibilities

Core Duties

• Coordinate daily activities of assigned shop(s), including: scheduling and assigning work to staff and directing and leading workers in completing assigned work; monitoring work and project activity progress, making necessary changes; completing performance evaluations of assigned staff; performing quality assurance checks, and coordinating health and safety programs and training.
• Track budget for area of responsibility, and provide time and workforce needs and estimates to higher level management based on cost analyses, ensuring work is completed according to stipulated price and agreement.
• Implement, interpret, and manage policies and procedures pertaining to operations and facilities management.
• Manage service contracts as applicable.
• Coordinate activities, construction, and renovation with Stanford staff, subcontractors, and/or vendors. Support assigned project activities; ensure compliance with larger unit goals.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Ability to coordinate daily activities including work scheduling, quality assurance, program validation, monitoring of maintenance activities, and supervision of personnel.
• Demonstrated experience working with subcontractors/vendors and demonstrated ability to monitor project activities and ensure compliance with internal/external regulations.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting policies.
• Knowledge of environmental and safety rules, regulations, and policies. Ability to conduct job site inspections to ensure compliance.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions and communicate those instructions to others.
