The Salvation Army Northern Division Duluth Corps is seeking a Plover Place Housing Advocate to support adult residents by assisting with living skills, responding to needs and crises, and helping maintain a safe environment.

Based at Plover Place, a 24-unit site-based permanent supportive housing program, the role also handles building access, answers calls, documents interactions, and provides administrative and event support.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have at least one year of experience with the target population served.
  • Must pass background checks, including through The Salvation Army and MN Department of Human Services.
  • Flexible interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Values honesty, diligence, and ethical conduct in all aspects of work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, standard PC applications, and standard office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, person-centered support to adult participants, including assistance with living skills, navigating housing policies, responding to crises, and promoting a safe, respectful environment.
  • Manage building access and greet visitors by greeting, assisting, and directing them appropriately.
  • Document participant interactions, incidents, and visitor logs.
  • Respond to incoming calls and provide information or support as needed.
  • Assist with seasonal and special projects and events.

Job description

The Plover Place Housing Advocate supports adult residents by assisting with living skills, responding to needs and crises, and helping maintain a safe and respectful environment. The role also manages building access, answers calls, documents interactions, and provides general administrative and event support.

Plover Place is a 24-unit site-based permanent supportive housing program serving single adults experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Designed for efficiency and low maintenance, it provides housing, case management, staffing, and life skills programming to support residents in achieving stability.

As part of The Salvation Army Northern Division Duluth Corps, Plover Place operates within a broader mission of “Doing the Most Good” by delivering holistic, person-centered services. The Corps offers worship and spiritual care, case management, housing, food, clothing, utility and rental assistance, youth programming, and connections to community resources.

$18.65 to $19.30/hr

24 hrs/WEEK

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)

  • Participant Support (50%): Provide compassionate, person-centered support to adult participants, including assistance with living skills, navigating housing policies, responding to crises, and promoting a safe, respectful environment.
  • Building Access & Visitor Management (15%): Manage building access and welcome all visitors by greeting, assisting, and directing them appropriately.
  • Documentation & Administrative Support (15%): Perform administrative tasks, including documenting participant interactions, incidents, and visitor logs.
  • Caller & Information Requests (10%): Respond to incoming calls and provide information or support as needed.
  • Seasonal & Special Project Support (10%): Assist with seasonal and special projects and events.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have at least one year of experience with the target population served.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily sedentary work, involving extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Professional on-site work environment, remote work is not available for this position.
  • Requires clear, consistent communication with colleagues, participants, and visitors.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift to 20 pounds.
  • Shifts may vary and include daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend hours.
