Position Overview: Housekeeping Supervisor
Under the direction of facility leadership, the Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department. This position provides leadership and direction to housekeeping staff, monitors cleaning standards, coordinates work assignments and schedules, and helps ensure compliance with facility policies, infection prevention practices, and applicable regulatory requirements. The Housekeeping Supervisor leads by example and works closely with other departments to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and create a comfortable, home-like environment for our residents.
General Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate, and provide daily direction to housekeeping staff to ensure assigned duties are completed efficiently and according to established standards.
- Develop and maintain daily work assignments, cleaning schedules, and staff coverage to meet the needs of the facility.
- Conduct routine inspections of resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, common areas, offices, and other facility areas to ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards are maintained.
- Train, coach, and support housekeeping employees on proper cleaning techniques, equipment use, safety procedures, infection prevention practices, and facility expectations.
- Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and completion of assigned responsibilities and address concerns with appropriate facility leadership.
- Ensure housekeeping staff follow established daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic cleaning schedules.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of housekeeping supplies, chemicals, and equipment and communicate ordering needs as necessary.
- Ensure cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment are properly labeled, stored, handled, and used according to safety requirements and manufacturer instructions.
- Promote and monitor compliance with infection prevention and control practices throughout the Housekeeping Department.
- Identify and promptly report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or other conditions that may affect resident or employee safety.
- Assist with housekeeping duties and provide coverage when necessary to ensure facility needs are met.
- Respond promptly and professionally to housekeeping concerns or requests from residents, families, staff, and facility leadership.
- Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and respect while ensuring resident rooms and personal belongings are handled appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with Nursing, Maintenance, Laundry, Dietary, Administration, and other departments to support overall facility operations.
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff education, inspections, quality improvement initiatives, and other facility programs as assigned.
- Ensure housekeeping services are provided in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience required; healthcare or long-term care experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory, lead, or management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of housekeeping procedures, sanitation practices, infection prevention, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment preferred.
- Must possess strong leadership, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Must be able to effectively supervise, train, motivate, and provide direction to housekeeping staff.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, dependability, good judgment, and attention to detail.
- Must demonstrate patience, compassion, and a positive attitude when working with elderly and disabled residents.
- Must be capable of performing the essential job functions and physical requirements of the position.
