Job summary

STJ St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon, WV, is seeking an Environmental Services member to clean and maintain patient areas, offices and equipment while following established procedures and safety standards.

You will perform duties such as sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and restocking supplies, with attention to detail and a focus on infection control. The role requires physical ability and adherence to hospital policies.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and ensure assigned areas are cleaned and in good repair; report issues to supervisor.
• Clean all assigned areas including patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, OR rooms, offices and equipment.
• Remove trash from all assigned areas.
• Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all locations.
• Make beds in patient discharge rooms and on‑call rooms as assigned.
• Maintain equipment in clean, working condition; report problems or suggestions to supervisor.
• Move equipment, furniture or other items as assigned.
• Follow all safety and sanitation regulations.
• Complete annual education related to specialty accreditation as defined by standards.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Inspects and ensures that all assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair; report problems to the supervisor.
• Cleans all assigned areas, including patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, OR rooms, offices and equipment, following established procedures.
• Removes trash from all assigned areas.
• Replenishes paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all locations of assigned areas to assure adequate supply.
• Makes beds, following established cleaning procedures in all patient discharge rooms and on‑call rooms as assigned.
• Maintains assigned equipment in clean, working condition, reporting problems and suggestions to the supervisor.
• Moves equipment, furniture, boxes, wash walls, spot carpets, etc. as assigned.
• Follows all safety and sanitation regulations.

For Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements

• Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have physical ability to perform cleaning tasks such as mopping, reaching and bending and operating floor equipment such as vacuum cleaners, autoscrubbers, buffers, etc.
• Must meet Department of Labor's Heavy Duty Standard.
• Capable of wearing appropriate PPE for an extended period of time

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and different types of cleaning chemicals.

• Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the hospital.
• Possesses the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with guests.
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of assigned areas, necessary supplies and equipment
