Summary

THIS OPEN AND CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT (OCA) ESTABLISHES A STANDING REGISTER OF ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS - WHICH CLOSES ON 09/16/2026. The initial cut‑off date for referral of eligible applications will be on or about 06/03/2026 with subsequent reviews every other week as additional vacancies occur – or on an as‑needed basis – until positions are filled.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date. EXPERIENCE: No specific length of training or experience is required; however, applicants must demonstrate training or experience sufficient to perform the duties. Evidence of knowledge, skills, and ability must be supported by detailed resume descriptions. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN‑OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen‑out element – usually question 1 in the online questionnaire. Qualified applicants are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Dexterity and Safety, Follow Directions, Handle Weights and Loads, Reliability and Dependability, Special Aptitude – Housekeeping. Work experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work through National Service programs, professional, philanthropic, religious, or community organizations. Physical effort: continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, pushing; occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment weighing over 50 lb. Working conditions: primarily indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation.

Responsibilities
  • The housekeeping aids maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families, essential to patient care.
  • Work alongside other Veterans – 85 % of the housekeeping staff.
  • Perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping tasks.
  • Maintain patient areas clean and safe.
  • Clean wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub floors (machine), vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows, and ceilings (by climbing small ladders), refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers, move furniture.
  • Carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Address spills quickly.
  • Work schedule: full‑time — shift and days off determined by facility needs.
  • Compressed/flexible schedule: not available.
  • Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of the most recent SF‑50, indicating position title, series, grade, step, tenure, and type of service.
  • If necessary, provide more than one SF‑50 to show a higher grade previously held.
Appointment and Incentives

The position is in the competitive service. Interchange agreements with other merit systems are available under specific conditions. Relocation, retention, and other incentives are not authorized.
