Duties
Incumbent is responsible for the full range of Environmental Management Services, WS-2 Supervisory duties to include custodial, janitorial, pest control, waste management, housekeeping, linen control, patient valuables, and sanitation activities in his/her assigned area of the medical center and Clinical Based Out-patient Clinics (CBOC's) as necessary.
- Supervises and trains subordinate employees in grades WG
- Within established policies, general instructions and standard procedures, incumbent has full supervisory responsibility for accomplishing all functions necessary to maintain satisfactory conditions in assigned areas.
- Plans the daily activity of his/her employees and establishes deadlines for the activities to be completed. Routinely changes work assignments to account for absences and to accomplish priorities.
- Makes several daily rounds through his/her assigned areas, ensuring that the required services are being provided in a correct and acceptable manner.
- Performs the full range of personnel management functions such as assignments, training, leave administration, performance appraisals, counseling, award recommendations, accident reports and disciplinary actions.
- Uses the Veterans Health Information/Technology Architecture (VISTA) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System for concurrence and follow up.
As a means of evaluating employee performance and the condition of the center, incumbent administers the service quality inspection program. This program consists of regularly scheduled quality inspections of all areas/employees, documentation of inspections, communicating results to employees, and require follow-up to ensure corrections are being made. Results are maintained for one year and utilized for employee counseling, evaluations, awards and disciplinary actions.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.

HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
