Job Title: Housekeeper FT; Varied Schedule
Supervised by: Environmental Services Manager

M-Wed. 2:30pm-10pm; Sat & Sun 9am-5:30pm (Off Thur. & Fri.)

Job Summary:

Cleans all areas of the hospital according to policies and procedures. Participates in performance improvement activities.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
  • Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Environmental Services Department.
  • Performs routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, and clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators and stairways in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
  • Completes work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
  • Uses and maintains equipment properly.
  • Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
  • Always introduces self to patients, families and visitors.
  • Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
  • Replenishes supplies.
  • Follows all infection prevention and control practices, including Standard Precautions, Transmission-Based Precautions and hand hygiene.
  • Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
  • Works day, evening or night shift as assigned.
  • Ability to do work on his/her own with normal supervision.
  • Observes safety precautions at all times.
  • Maintains and ensures age-specific precautions.
  • Performs all aspects of assigned tasks in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses the computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, health plans and staff.
  • Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings; or reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Regulatory Requirements:
  • Preferred high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Preferred one to three (1-3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Skills:
  • Basic computer knowledge.
Physical Demands:
  • Normal hospital environment. Normal/corrected eyesight. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to chemical, electrical and mechanical hazards. Operates floor machines - buffers, scrubbers, and wet vacuums. Continuous walking and standing. Lifting up to 80 pounds. Carrying up to 40 pounds. Pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds.
