Job summary

BMC Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia is seeking an Environmental Services worker to perform a variety of cleaning tasks across patient rooms, exam rooms, and common areas. You will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, stocking supplies, making beds, and reporting any issues to the supervisor.

Position requires physical ability to mop, vacuum, and operate cleaning equipment. Typical weekly schedule is 40 hours; non-exempt status applies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to read and follow written work assignments.
• Ability to deal tactfully with guests and schedule based on hospital needs.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and ensures assigned areas are clean and in good repair; report issues.
• Cleans patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, OR rooms, offices and equipment.
• Removes trash and replenishes paper towels, toilet paper, and soap.
• Makes beds in discharge rooms and on-call rooms as assigned.
• Maintains equipment and reports problems to supervisor.
• Moves equipment, furniture, and cleans walls as assigned.
• Follows safety and sanitation regulations.

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

• Inspects and ensures that all assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair; report problems to the supervisor.
• Cleans all assigned areas, including patient rooms, exam rooms, public areas, toilets, procedure rooms, OR rooms, offices and equipment, following established procedures.
• Removes trash from all assigned areas.
• Replenishes paper towels, toilet paper, and soap in all locations of assigned areas to assure adequate supply.
• Makes beds, following established cleaning procedures in all patient discharge rooms and on-call rooms as assigned.
• Maintains assigned equipment in clean, working condition, reporting problems and suggestions to the supervisor.
• Moves equipment, furniture, boxes, wash walls, spot carpets, etc. as assigned.
• Follows all safety and sanitation regulations.

For Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements

• Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

Physical Requirements:

• Must have physical ability to perform cleaning tasks such as mopping, reaching and bending and operating floor equipment such as vacuum cleaners, autoscrubbers, buffers, etc.
• Must meet Department of Labor's Heavy Duty Standard.
• Capable of wearing appropriate PPE for an extended period of time

Working Environment:

• Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and different types of cleaning chemicals.

• Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the hospital.
• Possesses the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with guests.
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of assigned areas, necessary supplies and equipment
