Job description

Travis County Juvenile Probation Department (TCJPD) is now hiring a part-time Housekeeper to join our Facility Operations Division. This position performs custodial and laundry duties, including keeping the facilities clean and orderly, maintaining the appearance of offices, restrooms, and floors, and washing, sorting, drying, processing, and delivering laundry, towels, and linens. All work must be performed using appropriate safety procedures and equipment.

Please note: This is a part-time, temporary position required to participate in the County Retirement Program. It may be eligible for health, dental, and vision benefits if eligibility requirements are met.

Job Responsibilities

1. Perform general cleaning: sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, vacuuming, and waste disposal.
2. Clean and disinfect restrooms; operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, waxers, vacuums, and carpet cleaners.
3. Operate laundry equipment, sort and deliver laundry, towels, and linens.
4. Inspect clothing for cleanliness, mend torn clothing, and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies.
5. Secure and lock the building, replace light bulbs, and move furniture as needed.
6. Assist groundskeeper with yard work, if required.
7. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
One (1) year of general housekeeping or laundry experience, or any combination of training and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties.

Licenses and Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years old.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of janitorial, custodial, and laundry procedures and safety regulations.
• Skill in operating cleaning and laundry equipment.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions in English; communicate effectively; work independently; manage time; and establish effective working relationships.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and perform tasks involving standing, walking, bending, and other physical activities.

Work Conditions

May include work during holidays, nights, and weekends. Work may involve exposure to wet areas, hazardous materials, and infectious diseases.
