Job summary

LewisGale Regional Health System is seeking a House Supervisor RN in Nursing Administration to provide leadership across day, evening, night, and weekend shifts at our Blacksburg area facility. You will oversee staffing, patient flow, and clinical operations, while ensuring high-quality patient care and service standards.

You will coordinate with clinical leaders, support bed management and transfers, and mentor new staff to promote a cohesive team.

Qualifications

  • RN license required and active
  • Three years of RN experience required; five years preferred
  • ACLS within 4 months of start date
  • BCLS within 90 days of start date
  • PALS within 90 days of start date
  • Associate Degree required; BSN/MSN preferred

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and the health care team
  • Maintain staffing and census reports accurately
  • Act as in-house resource for staff, patients, visitors, and physicians
  • Coordinate transfers and bed assignments with the Transfer Center
  • Respond to emergencies (RRT, Code Blue, Code Sepsis, MEWS & PEWS)
  • Promote customer service standards and address service issues
  • Lead day, evening, night and weekend shifts; oversee staffing and financial indicators
  • Orient new hires and assist with orientation of new shift administrators

House Supervisor RN Nursing Administration
  • You will communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and all aspects of the health care team. You will effectively promote and enforce customer service standards for all departments. You will support the department directors with staff and provide nursing department directors feedback regarding staff performance and/or problems.
  • You will maintain accurate staffing and census reports.
  • You will act as an in-house resource for staff, patients, visitors, and physicians. In role as resource to staff, you will give special attention to employees in their orientation period in order to assist with establishing their competency.
  • You will assist units and families with patient deaths.
  • You will respond to potential and/or actual emergency situations with direct and appropriate actions. (i.e. RRT, Code Blue, Code Sepsis, MEWS & PEWS Trauma Alerts)
  • You will work with the Transfer Center to obtain and communicate bed assignments. You will coordinate transportation to units for transfers and/or admissions.
  • You will communicate with peers, nurse managers, and others to exchange feedback on service issues and to solve problems, including patient and physician complaints.
  • You will demonstrate the ability in using hospital information systems including on-line forms required for position including notifications, code critique, chart review as needed.
  • You will pursue opportunities to enhance personal and professional growth.
  • You will assist with the orientation of new hires including new shift administrators as needed.
  • You will assure management of other specific routines including responding to unit requests for pharmaceuticals after hours following established procedures; notifying all personnel and coordinating posting of OR cases after hours; assisting with stat c-sections or set up of NICU services after hours.
  • You will regularly round on units and in-patient areas to interact with patients, families, and visitors to identify opportunity to improve the patient experience.
  • You will provide leadership through the coordination of clinical services during day, evening, night, and weekend shifts, including monitoring financial indicators for departments and adjusting staffing.
  • You will promote team building and department cohesiveness through open communication and collaboration.
What qualifications you will need
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 4 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • (RN) Registered Nurse
  • Three years of RN experience is required. Five years is preferred.
  • Associate Degree is required. BSN or MSN is preferred.
