Job summary

University of Utah RMCOEH is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to support clinical research programs. Responsibilities include data compilation, manuscript preparation, and coordinating information across projects, with opportunities for authorship and conference presentations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Compiles data from interviews, literature sources, and medical/genealogical records.
  • Enters information into department's computer system.
  • Assists researchers with quantitative and qualitative analyses in SAS, Excel, NVIVO and other programs.
  • Prepares manuscripts and presentations by creating slides, charts, graphs and handouts.
  • Searches sources and evaluates applicability of data to research subjects.
  • May assist in data collection, questionnaire creation, and participant interactions.
  • Drafts correspondence and responds to agency inquiries about projects.
  • Edits research papers, reports, proposals and curriculum materials.
  • Prepares formats for data disposition and prints/graphics for materials.
  • Maintains an internal library and supports recruitment and scheduling for projects.

Job Summary

Performs varied support functions, including gathering and contributing information or materials for research projects at the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (RMCOEH). RMCOEH became Utah's first statutorily established multi-university program in 2021. The Center works especially closely with 10 transdisciplinary Center Program Directors who hold faculty appointments in 4 U of U departments and will work closely with faculty and staff at Weber State University to contribute to the success of this prominent, new legislative initiative and partnership. Opportunities may include authorship on manuscripts, presentations at domestic and international conferences, and development of research skills and knowledge.

The department may choose to hire at any of the below job levels and associated pay rates based on their business need and budget.

Responsibilities
  • Compiles data from a variety of sources including interviews, literature sources, and medical and genealogical records.
  • Enters information into department's computer system.
  • Assists researchers in performing both quantitative and qualitative data analyses in SAS, Excel, NVIVO and other programs.
  • Assists researchers by preparing manuscripts and presentation materials by creating slides, charts, graphs and handouts.
  • Searches sources such as reference works, documents, statistical records and evaluates applicability of collected data to research subject.
  • May assist in data collection including observing and coding meeting behaviors, creation of questionnaires, and interacting with study participants.
  • Drafts correspondence to answer inquiries and responds to requests from agencies about specific projects.
  • Edit research papers, project reports, proposals and curriculum materials prior to publication or presentation.
  • Prepares format for final disposition of data and arranges for the printing and graphic art requirements for printed materials.
  • Maintains an internal library on project information resources and final data collected.
  • Works with research personnel in the design and preparation and recruitment for research projects and in recording data.
  • Schedules appointments, visits, and meetings for meeting participants and clients.

The incumbent works under general supervision in the performance of most tasks and may determine the prioritization of routine work assignments and assist in establishing standardized questions for interviews. When compiling information from various sources, particularly interviews, the incumbent must evaluate what is critical to the goals of the study and have the ability to elicit cooperation from participants. The incumbent must be aware of the various stages during the research project so he/she can give accurate information to outside sources as well as assist in keeping the project on schedule, and able to multi-task with varied assignments and be aware of resources needed to accomplish publishing/printing objectives.

Research Assistant, I

Administrative tasks in support of the clinical research program or laboratory. Tasks will vary by department and research category. Typically, manages the front desk, organizes files, and performs other clerical duties associated with research studies and programs. Recruits participants, verifies eligibility, and enrolls subjects. Schedules participant visits and maintains records. Transports samples or laboratory equipment. Monitors inventory levels and orders supplies. Tasks will vary by department and research category. Requires little to no related experience. This is an Entry-Level position in the Support track. Research Assistant, II

Recruits participants, verifies eligibility, and enrolls subjects. Schedules participant visits and maintains records. Transports samples or laboratory equipment. Monitors inventory levels and orders supplies. Tasks will vary by department and research category. Requires at least 1 year of related experience. This is an Intermediate Level position in the Support track. Job Code: S58212 Grade: S15

Research Assistant, III

Administrative tasks in support of the clinical research program or laboratory. Tasks will vary by department and research category. Typically, manages the front desk, organizes files, and performs other clerical duties associated with research studies and programs. Recruits participants, verifies eligibility, and enrolls subjects. Schedules participant visits and maintains records. Transports samples or laboratory equipment. Monitors inventory levels and orders supplies. Tasks will vary by department and research category. Requires 3+ years of related experience. This is a Skilled Level position in the Support track. Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Preferences
  • Strong organizational and data management skills including the coding of audio and video transcripts.
  • Ability to handle several responsibilities and work under tight time constraints.
