Job description

The City of Walnut Creek’s Camp Community Arts is seeking one detail-oriented, part-time Site Coordinator to support our dynamic camp program. The Site Coordinator will support the program with a variety of day-to-day operational tasks, from processing camp registration documents to handling program communication and more. The Site coordinator will help to create an environment that emphasizes fun and process-based learning. We will be offering various single-day camps, two weeklong camps in Fall and Spring; and summer camp programs running June 14 - August 5, 2027.

Camps will consist of:

  • Single-Day Camps: October 12, 2026; October 26, 2026; November 23, 2026; November 24, 2026; February 11, 2027; February 12, 2027; March 15, 2027; March 31, 2027
  • Spring Break Camp: April 4 - April 9, 2027
  • Summer Camp Counselor Training: June 9 - June 11, 2027
  • Summer Camp 1: June 14 - June 25, 2027
  • Summer Camp 2: June 28 - July 9, 2027 *No camp July 5
  • Summer Camp 3: July 12 - July 23, 2027
  • Summer Camp 4: July 26 - July 30, 2027
  • Summer Camp 5: August 2 - August 6, 2027

All camps will be located at Center for Community Arts – Shadelands Art Center (111 North Wiget Lane, Walnut Creek, CA 94598) and Center for Community Arts – Civic Park Preschool (1375 Civic Dr, Walnut Creek, CA 94596).

Hours and Compensation

This is an ongoing, part-time, non-benefitted position. Hourly rate of pay is $23.50-$26.50. Placement in the range will depend upon the level of education and experience. Hours vary depending on time of year, with hours increasing during Camp program weeks. We estimate hour needs to be the following:

  • 20-35 hours per week during the one week of Spring Camp, in addition to camp move-in and move-out weeks prior to and following the camp schedule. Spring camp runs from April 4 to April 9, 2027.
  • 20-35 hours per week during the eight weeks of Summer Camp, in addition to camp move-in and move-out weeks prior to and following the camp schedule. Summer camps will run from June 14 to August 6, 2027.

About the Department and Division

Center for Community Arts (“Community Arts”) is an integral division of the Arts and Recreation department of the City of Walnut Creek. With more than 50 years of inspiring creativity through the arts, we are Northern California's largest provider of community arts education classes and workshops. Community Arts’ extensive visual and performing arts programming is offered across three sites, primarily at our Shadelands Arts Center. This includes workshops, classes, youth camps, performances, and exhibitions that foster artistic development, engagement, and connection within our community.

Camp Community Arts (CCA) provides summer and spring art camps for youth ages 4 - 15. Camp Community Arts is a fun camp environment, where students explore a multidisciplinary arts curriculum taught by professional teaching artists. Students learn through a process-based approach creating space for the development of skills and self-expression in a supportive community setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Program Supervisor, the Camp Site Coordinator performs a wide range of duties as assigned. The most frequent responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a key member of the program team, implementing the vision and work plan for the camp program;
  • Use data and feedback to continuously improve camp programming;
  • Maintain program records and documentation, file routine reports, complete maintenance orders, and manage organizational correspondence;
  • Budget, order, maintain, and manage supplies/inventory for Camp Counselor training, and supervision;
  • Supervise and schedule Camp Counselors;
  • Plan and co-facilitate Camp Counselor meetings and check-ins;
  • Facilitate the collection of all required participation documents and waivers for all enrolled students;
  • Manage all correspondence to parents and guardians (welcome letters, reminders, directions, weekly newsletters, notifications, and culmination event information);
  • Document camp by taking photos to share with parents and guardians weekly through an online platform;
  • Manage all correspondence with Camp Counselors;
  • Serve as the first point of contact for student illness, “ouch reports”, and behavioral incidents;
  • Provide quality customer service to camp families through managing the camp office and daily sign-in/out.

Any combination of training and experience that gives a person the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the job successfully will be considered qualifying. A highly qualified candidate may have a Bachelor of Arts (or equivalent work experience) in Arts Education or Early Childhood Development.
