Courtyard Huntsville - University Drive is seeking a meticulous Chief Engineer to maintain guest rooms, public spaces, and engineering assets. You will execute daily tasks, manage GXP tickets, and oversee preventative maintenance across building systems.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years in facility maintenance, building trades, or property upkeep; hospitality engineering experience valued.
  • Practical skills in basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and electronics troubleshooting.
  • Certifications such as CPO or EPA/HVAC are a plus or willing to obtain them.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Chief Engineer assignments and report daily priorities to the Chief Engineer.
  • Process Marriott GXP work tickets and maintain logs on the digital platform.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
  • Respond to guest maintenance requests promptly to ensure high satisfaction.
  • Replace TVs, cable boxes, data links, and other tech equipment as needed.
  • Handle basic electrical tasks: switches, sockets, bulbs, fixtures.
  • Perform plumbing tasks across guest rooms and utility areas.
  • Paint, patch, repair wall coverings, and touch up trim as required.
  • Repair infrastructure and grounds equipment to maintain property integrity.
  • Monitor pool chemistry, mechanicals, and filtration for outdoor pool.
  • Adhere to safety policies, fire codes, OSHA guidelines.
  • Support daily operations with additional duties as directed by leadership.

Job description

Because we take immense pride in our hotel product, systematic preventative maintenance is of the utmost importance in this role. We are seeking a team member who brings an eye for detail, digital competence, and consistent care for the physical asset. In this role, you will focus on keeping our guest rooms, public spaces, and engineering assets in immaculate condition while efficiently executing Chief Engineer assignments and operational priorities.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Chief Engineer Assignments: Execute all tasks and special projects assigned directly by the Chief Engineer. Report to the Chief at the start of each day to align on daily priorities and close out with them at the end of each day to review completed work, open logs, and next steps.
  • Marriott GXP Work Ticket Requests: Execute daily GXP work ticket requests efficiently, monitoring the digital property platform to resolve engineering and maintenance logs in a timely manner.
  • Systematic Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine, scheduled preventative maintenance checks throughout the building, ensuring guest rooms, common spaces, and back-of-house areas meet strict operational quality metrics on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual sequence.
  • Guest Request & Room Calls: Respond promptly and professionally to hotel guest room maintenance calls as requested, resolving problems efficiently to ensure high guest satisfaction.
  • Electronics & Technology Care: Replace TVs, cable boxes, data links, and alternative high-use technology or equipment as needed to support traveling guests.
  • Electrical Upkeep: Replace light switches, wall sockets, light bulbs, fixtures, and safely execute basic electrical tasks.
  • Plumbing Maintenance: Replace pipes, clear lines, service drainage systems, and successfully execute basic plumbing tasks across guest rooms and utility areas.
  • Aesthetics & Painting: Paint inside and outside as needed, patch holes in walls, repair wall coverings, and touch up trim work to keep the property interior and exterior looking flawless.
  • Exterior & Equipment Care: Make functional repairs to building infrastructure and grounds equipment, maintaining the longevity and structural integrity of the property footprint.
  • Pool & Amenities Monitoring: Handle daily chemical logging, mechanical checks, and filtration balancing for our outdoor swimming pool infrastructure.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Follow all safety and sanitation policies and procedures, maintaining absolute compliance with company safety standards, fire codes, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Flexible Team Duties: Perform any alternative duties assigned by the Chief Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, or General Manager to support daily operations and the overall success of the hotel team.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Reliability: Strong dependability with a proven track record of excellent attendance and punctual arrival for scheduled shifts, including opening and closing the day with your direct supervisor.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in facility maintenance, commercial building trades, or apartment property upkeep. Prior hospitality engineering experience is highly valued. Marriott experience a plus!
  • Professional Appearance: Maintain a crisp, clean appearance by adhering to hotel grooming and uniform standards, and proudly wearing your nametag to represent the brand professionally.
  • Product Care: A strong "eye for detail" and an inherent commitment to keeping a physical building looking and functioning like new.
  • Technical Aptitude: Proven, practical working proficiency in basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and electronic troubleshooting.
  • Certifications: Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or universal EPA/HVAC certifications are a distinct asset, or a willingness to obtain them.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 50 lbs frequently (up to 100 lbs with assistance), comfortably stand for long periods, and climb ladders safely.
  • Requirements: Flexibility to work a varied schedule including weekends, holidays, or alternating on-call emergency rotations. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
