Job summary

Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to oversee daily engineering operations, lead the team, and respond to after-hours emergencies. You will coordinate PM programs, manage staffing, and ensure safety and compliance across all building systems.

The role requires strong HVAC, electrical, and life-safety knowledge, plus hands-on troubleshooting and vendor coordination in a busy hotel environment. Full-time, on-site position with varying shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience in hotel or commercial building engineering with leadership.
• Strong HVAC and electrical knowledge applicable to hotel systems.
• State certification or licensure where required; EPA/608 preferred; CPO preferred.
• Experience with life safety systems and reading blueprints.
• Ability to plan, troubleshoot and make timely decisions.
• Experience with computerized work order and PM systems.
• Excellent communication and training abilities.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assist Chief Engineer in meeting operational standards.
• Act as department head in the Chief Engineer's absence.
• Serve as MOD and participate in leadership rotations.
• Prepare department budgets and capital plans.
• Lead PM program development and track completion.
• Review equipment logs and monitor utility use.
• Coordinate scheduling, training, and supervision of staff.
• Respond to emergencies on-site and coordinate with responders.
• Oversee safety procedures and ensure OSHA compliance.
• Coordinate with vendors and third-party contractors.
