Role Description

The Chief Engineer is a full-time, on-site leadership role based at Hilton Beachfront Resort & Spa in the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina area. This role oversees all engineering, maintenance, and life safety operations for the resort, including guestrooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and grounds. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and executing preventive maintenance programs, managing repairs, coordinating vendor and contractor work, and ensuring all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, pools, and spa facilities) operate safely and efficiently. The Chief Engineer leads and schedules the engineering team, manages department budgets, monitors energy usage, and ensures compliance with local, state, brand, and safety regulations. This role works closely with operations, housekeeping, spa, and events teams to minimize downtime, support guest satisfaction, and maintain the resort’s high standards of appearance and functionality.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading engineering or maintenance operations in a hotel, resort, or large commercial facility, ideally in a beachfront or full-service property.
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life safety, and pool/spa systems.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage preventive maintenance programs, work orders, and capital improvement projects.
• Experience supervising, coaching, and scheduling engineering teams, including vendors and contractors, with a focus on safety and performance.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance, building codes, OSHA standards, fire and life safety requirements, and environmental/energy management best practices.
• Solid budgeting, cost control, and inventory management skills, with the ability to prioritize projects and optimize resources.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and troubleshooting abilities in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to partner with cross-functional hotel departments and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with maintenance management systems, basic computer skills (e.g., email, spreadsheets), and ability to maintain clear documentation.
