Job summary

Elmer's Restaurants is seeking a friendly host/busser to greet guests, manage wait lists, and support servers in a fast-paced dining room in Boise, Idaho. You will ensure a warm welcome, handle guest requests, and help maintain a clean, inviting lobby and dining area.

Ideal candidates demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently or in a team. Previous restaurant experience is appreciated, and a valid Food Handler’s Card is required where

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the work location and of the Guests who typically visit the work location.
• Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations and complete computer data entry.
• Requires valid Food Handler’s Card.
• Must have valid Alcohol Server Permit if required by state regulations for serving or cashiering.

Responsibilities

• Greets Guests in a warm and welcoming manner.
• Opens door for Guests arriving and departing whenever possible.
• Welcomes Guest to Elmer’s and identifies first-time Visitors.
• Informs manager and server of first-time Guests.
• Accommodates special needs of Guests ( boosters, high chairs, disabilities ).
• Manages the wait list when the restaurant is full.
• Provides Guests assistance to servers as needed.
• Process Guest payments.
• Maintains cleanliness of lobby, waiting area, cashier stand, and restrooms.
• May serve as busser when needed (cleans tables, restocks, removes dishes, moves bus cart, etc.)
• Refill coffees and waters for Guests.
• Pick up trash and debris in parking lot and sidewalk areas.
• Completes side work and extra projects as assigned.

Job Duties

• Greets Guests in a warm and welcoming manner:
• Opens door for Guests arriving and departing whenever possible
• Welcomes Guest to Elmer’s and determines if Guest is first time visitor

• Accommodates any special needs of Guests (i.e. boosters, high chairs, disabilities, etc.)
• Manages the wait list when the restaurant is full
• Provides Guests assistance to servers as needed.
• Process Guest payments
• Maintains cleanliness of lobby, waiting area, cashier stand, and restrooms.
• May serve as busser if business calls for it which includes:
• Maintaining cleanliness of sanitation of front-of-the-house including all tables, chairs, floors, windows, and ledges.
• Restock tables with appropriate items.
• Removing dirty dishes, utensils and glasses to bus cart area. Moves bus cart to dishwashing area, empties and cleans card. Returns cart to server aisle.
• Refill coffees and waters for Guests as needed.
• Pick up trash and debris in parking lot and sidewalk areas
• Completes side work and extra projects as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the work location and of the Guests who typically visit the work location.

EXPERIENCE

• Must have positive interpersonal skills
• Must be able to meet the shift’s needs of fluctuating business demands
• Requires knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures.
• Must be Guest sensitive and possess a sense of timing so Guests are seated promptly.
• Must make quality decisions relying on experience and good judgement with supervisory assistance by the manager on duty.
• Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment

In 1960, Walt and Dorothy Elmer opened breakfast focused Elmer’s Colonial Pancake House in Portland, OR. Truly a family owned and operated labor of love, Walt, Dorothy, and their three sons poured their hearts into serving the local community. It was an immediate success thanks to their commitment to bringing people together for home-style cooking, using only the finest ingredients.
Built on the foundation of Walt Elmer’s famous buttermilk pancakes, the original recipe for pancake batter was purchased for $1,000 and rumor has it that Walt kept it locked in his safe. We still use Walt’s original recipe today!
Over the years, the menu was expanded with lunch and dinner items and the restaurant became Elmer’s Pancake & Steakhouse. In 1966, Elmer’s began franchising and continues to grow to this day.
