Job summary

Elmer's Restaurants is hiring a host/busser to deliver warm hospitality and assist guests from arrival through seating. This role supports servers, manages wait lists, and helps maintain a clean, welcoming lobby and dining area.

Candidates should be guest-focused, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Part-time opportunities are available at our Bend, OR location.

Qualifications

• Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
• Must be able to perform basic math and data entry.
• Must have a valid Food Handler’s Card.
• Must have an Alcohol Server Permit if required by state regulation.

Responsibilities

• Greets guests warmly and checks them in.
• Opens doors for guests and assists with seating.
• Maintains lobby, waiting area, and cashier station cleanliness.
• Assists servers and manages the wait list as needed.
• Processes guest payments and ensures guest satisfaction.

Job description

Elmer's is looking for a host/busser to help us achieve our mission of Delighting our Guests! The host position is often the first and last impression our Guests have of Elmer's, so we are looking for people who understand the art of hospitality and who display a warm and gracious personality.

Job Duties

• Greets Guests in a warm and welcoming manner:
• Opens door for Guests arriving and departing whenever possible
• Welcomes Guest to Elmer’s and determines if Guest is first time visitor
• Informs manager and server of any first time Guests
• Accommodates any special needs of Guests (i.e. boosters, high chairs, disabilities, etc.)
• Manages the wait list when the restaurant is full
• Provides Guests assistance to servers as needed.
• Process Guest payments
• Maintains cleanliness of lobby, waiting area, cashier stand, and restrooms.
• May serve as busser if business calls for it which includes:
• Maintaining cleanliness of sanitation of front-of-the-house including all tables, chairs, floors, windows, and ledges.
• Restock tables with appropriate items.
• Removing dirty dishes, utensils and glasses to bus cart area. Moves bus cart to dishwashing area, empties and cleans card. Returns cart to server aisle.
• Refill coffees and waters for Guests as needed.
• Pick up trash and debris in parking lot and sidewalk areas
• Completes side work and extra projects as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the work location and of the Guests who typically visit the work location.
• Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations and complete computer data entry.
• Must have a valid Food Handler’s Card
• Must have a valid Alcohol Server Permit if required by State regulations for serving or cashiering.

EXPERIENCE

• Must have positive interpersonal skills
• Must be able to meet the shift’s needs of fluctuating business demands
• Requires knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures.
• Must be Guest sensitive and possess a sense of timing so Guests are seated promptly.
• Must make quality decisions relying on experience and good judgement with supervisory assistance by the manager on duty.
• Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment

In 1960, Walt and Dorothy Elmer opened breakfast focused Elmer’s Colonial Pancake House in Portland, OR. Truly a family owned and operated labor of love, Walt, Dorothy, and their three sons poured their hearts into serving the local community. It was an immediate success thanks to their commitment to bringing people together for home-style cooking, using only the finest ingredients.
Built on the foundation of Walt Elmer’s famous buttermilk pancakes, the original recipe for pancake batter was purchased for $1,000 and rumor has it that Walt kept it locked in his safe. We still use Walt’s original recipe today!
Over the years, the menu was expanded with lunch and dinner items and the restaurant became Elmer’s Pancake & Steakhouse. In 1966, Elmer’s began franchising and continues to grow to this day.
