Location

Perched above the Jordanelle Reservoir and just steps from the Jordanelle Express Gondola, Canopy by Hilton at Deer Valley is your all-season gateway to adventure. Effortless ski-in access meets vibrant dining and après with live local music, while the rooftop lounge, game room, and year-round heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and plunge pool create the ultimate alpine retreat. Cozy yet dynamic, it’s mountain luxury reimagined.

Overview:

The Host / Barista at Canopy by Hilton serves as the primary ambassador of first impressions, seamlessly transitioning between the coffee shop, restaurant entrance, and cashier station. Grounded in a strong Culture of Care, this multi-faceted role combines the warm, welcoming presence of a Host/Hostess with the technical precision of a skilled Barista. Whether crafting artisanal beverages, managing the dining room door, pacing guest seating, or executing accurate retail transactions, this position ensures a smooth, hospitable, and efficient start to the guest experience while strictly adhering to property standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hostess & Door Operations:

    • Warmly greet arriving guests, verify dining or event reservations, and guide them to their tables with a welcoming and positive demeanor.

    • Manage the floor layout and table rotation efficiently to ensure balanced pacing for the service team and minimal wait times for guests.

    • Actively engage with guests upon seating to understand their specific dining needs, severe food allergies, or dietary preferences, communicating these details immediately to the assigned Server and culinary team.

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and pristine host stand and entry area to ensure a flawless first impression according to brand standards.

    • Provide accurate information regarding property layouts, operation hours, and menu offerings, emphasizing local and regional concepts.

  • Barista & Coffee Shop Operations:

    • Prepare and serve a full menu of specialty coffee, espresso beverages, teas, and seasonal drinks precisely to brand standards and portion guidelines.

    • Maintain deep product knowledge of coffee blends, regional flavor profiles, and local pastry or food offerings to confidently guide guest selections.

    • Maintain, clean, and calibrate espresso machines, grinders, and coffee shop brewing equipment daily to ensure product consistency and safety.

    • Keep the coffee shop counter, display cases, and condiment stations fully stocked, clean, and organized throughout the shift.

    • Adhere strictly to health and food safety protocols, monitoring expiration dates and product freshness for all café inventory.

    • Review operational directions to assist in the physical setup and teardown of event rooms, positioning tables, chairs, linens, and buffets efficiently.

  • Cashier & Retail Reconciliation

    • Input café, coffee shop, and grab-and-go orders accurately into the point-of-sale (POS) system, flagging any specific guest dietary restrictions when ringing up food items.

    • Process guest checks cleanly and handle cash, credit, room charges, and mobile payments efficiently according to standard accounting procedures.

    • Balance and reconcile the cash drawer at the start and end of each shift with absolute financial precision, reporting any discrepancies immediately to management.

    • Monitor retail inventory on display, ensuring items are neatly organized, properly priced, and visually appealing to encourage grab-and-go sales.

  • Compliance, State Liquor Laws & Safety

    • Adhere strictly to the Utah 100% ID law by verifying physical or approved mobile identification for any guest purchasing retail alcohol or age-restricted items, regardless of appearance.

    • Inspect IDs for court-ordered restrictions before processing any retail alcohol transactions.

    • Safely clear and bus used café glassware, plates, and trash to the dishwashing area to keep the coffee shop seating space pristine and hazard-free.

    • Ensure any retail or beverage inventory restricted by state sales hours remains stored in designated, secure, DABS-approved lockups.

QualificationsQualifications:

  • Natural hospitality enthusiast who thrives in a dynamic, dual-environment setting and can easily shift gears between a bustling coffee shop and a fast-paced restaurant entrance.

  • Passionate about people, local culinary storytelling, and committed to fostering a workplace rooted in a genuine Culture of Care.

  • Strong collaborative spirit on the floor, communicating with team members and guests with absolute clarity and Compassionate Candor.

  • Proven ability to maintain a calm, organized, and positive demeanor under high-volume morning rushes and peak dining hours.

  • Detail-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to following property standard operating procedures (SOPs) and financial safety guidelines.

Skills:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality service and beverage execution.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced hospitality team.

  • Must meet minimum age requirements as dictated by Utah state law to handle, scan, or process transactions involving packaged alcoholic beverages.

  • Must possess or successfully obtain a valid local Food Handler's Permit within 30 days of employment.

  • Prior experience as a barista in a specialty coffee shop or hotel outlet is highly preferred.

  • Prior experience with hospitality POS software platforms and cash handling is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous standing, walking, and moving across varied floor surfaces throughout an 8-hour shift.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and balance service trays, retail restock boxes, or coffee supplies up to 30 lbs.

  • Manual dexterity to operate espresso machinery, milk frothers, and POS touchscreens precisely.
