Job summary

Grimm Artisanal Ales in New York is seeking a Front-of-House Host to be the first and last impression of our hospitality. You will warmly welcome guests, manage seating flow, and keep the front of house organized during high-volume service.

You will handle reservations with Resy, seat guests in real time, respond to messages, and assist with opening and closing duties. Prior hospitality experience and comfort with Toast POS are required.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as a host or guest-facing hospitality role.
• Experience with Resy is required.
• Strong verbal communication and multitasking skills.
• Comfortable using Toast POS and troubleshooting basic issues.
• Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests promptly and warmly upon arrival and departure.
• Manage reservations, walk-ins, and waitlists via Resy and note special occasions.
• Check guests in and seat parties in real time to keep accurate wait times.
• Balance sections and rotate seating through floor plan monitoring.
• Respond to Resy messages professionally and adjust bookings as needed.
• Provide accurate wait time estimates and update guests as needed.
• Bus and reset tables after guests depart and maintain a clean host stand.
• Track large parties and VIPs and flag for management as needed.
• Handle guest concerns calmly, looping in a manager when necessary.
• Support opening/closing duties, reconciling reservations vs. actual covers.

GRIMM TAVERN HOST

As a Host at Grimm Tavern, you are the first and last impression of our hospitality. You set the tone for every guest’s visit — managing the flow of the dining room through Resy, welcoming guests warmly, and keeping the front of house organized and moving smoothly, even during high-volume service.

Reports To:

General Manager / Assistant Manager

Overall duties include (but are not limited to):

• Greet every guest promptly and warmly upon arrival and departure, setting the tone for their visit.
• Manage all reservations, walk-ins, and waitlist entries using Resy, including confirming party size, seating preferences, and special occasion notes.
• Check guests in and seat parties in Resy in real time to keep table statuses and wait times accurate.
• Monitor the floor plan and communicate with servers and management to balance sections and rotate seating.
• Answer and respond to Resy messages and notifications professionally, booking or adjusting reservations as needed.
• Provide accurate wait time estimates to guests and proactively update them if wait times change.
• Bus and reset tables promptly after guests depart, including clearing dishware, wiping down surfaces, and resetting place settings so tables are turn-ready.
• Maintain the host stand, menus, and entryway area so they are clean, organized, and stocked.
• Track large party, private event, and VIP reservations in Resy, flagging them to managers and kitchen staff in advance.
• Handle guest concerns at the door calmly and professionally, looping in a manager when needed.
• Support opening and closing duties, including reconciling the day’s Resy reservations against actual covers and reporting no-shows.

Requirements:

• Prior experience as a host, server, or in another guest-facing hospitality role.
• Experience with Resy is required.
• Strong verbal communication and multitasking skills, especially during high-volume periods.
• Comfortable using a Toast POS system and troubleshooting basic technical issues.
• Ability to continuously stand and walk for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
