Sound Physicians in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a Board-certified or eligible Physician Assistant to join our inpatient team at Mt. Carmel East.

You will deliver patient-centered care as part of a collaborative group, with intensivist coverage in an open ICU setting and opportunities to mentor students and observe international physicians. Schedule features a 7 days on / 7 off day shift (7:00 AM–7:00 PM) or swing shift (Monday–Thursday, 5:00 PM–3:00 AM).

Qualifications

  • Board-certified or eligible as a Physician Assistant for inpatient care.
  • Inpatient experience required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on managing complex inpatient cases with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with hospitalist APPs and supervising physicians.
  • Mentor medical and APP students and support observerships for international physicians.
  • Attend morning meetings 2–3 times weekly and review performance with the regional team.

Local Team Collaboration
  • We take pride in our well-established team of 18 physicians and 7 advanced practice providers (APPs) at Mt. Carmel East.
  • Work alongside a collaborative group supported by a clinical performance nurse, a clinical performance associate, and a group coordinator. Our diverse team hails from all over the world, bringing unique perspectives and backgrounds to our practice.
  • We are an integral part of the hospital community and a valued strategic partner, maintaining strong relationships with hospital leadership and other physician groups. Our team actively participates in committees and leadership roles to support quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Outside of work, we share interests in food, sports, and celebrating special events. We come together a few times each year for team‑building social events, fostering camaraderie and connection.

Scheduling
  • Our team values work‑life balance, covering for one another when necessary to ensure time off for family and outdoor activities.
  • Typical day shift scheduling model is a 7‑days‑on, 7‑days‑off rotation, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The swing shift schedule is Monday‑Thursday, 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM.
Key Responsibilities
  • Focus on managing complex cases in an open ICU setting with intensivist coverage, without the expectation of performing procedures or running codes.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including hospitalist APPs who independently manage pre‑op patients in a clinic setting, supported by supervising physicians and staff.
  • Teach and mentor medical and APP students from nearby universities and programs on occasion. Opportunities to support international physicians with observerships may also be available for those interested in education.
  • Participate in morning meetings two to three times per week to discuss practice updates and meet monthly with the regional team to review performance and address practice issues.
  • No procedures are required.
