Job summary

The University of Maryland Midtown Campus is seeking a compassionate Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner to join our Direct Care Team. You’ll deliver patient-centered inpatient care, coordinate treatment plans, and practice at the top of your license.

Work with hospitalists, specialists, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality care, participate in rounds, and support admissions, discharges, and smooth transitions while educating patients and families.

Qualifications

  • MSN from an accredited NP program.
  • Maryland NP license.
  • National certification in specialty area.
  • DEA and CDS eligibility.
  • BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification (required for inpatient practice).
  • Minimum of one year RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and complex medical conditions in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies to develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications and implement evidence-based plans of care.
  • Perform bedside procedures within your scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with physicians, residents, nurses, case managers, and consultants to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and communicate treatment plans with the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges to promote efficient patient flow and reduce length of stay.
  • Facilitate timely specialty consultations and community referrals when appropriate.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Promote disease prevention, wellness, and health maintenance.
  • Advocate for patients by ensuring they understand their care plan and available treatment options.
  • Address each patient’s physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs by connecting them with appropriate hospital resources, including palliative care and pain management services.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice and clinical pathways to improve quality and patient safety.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes and the overall patient experience.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Education

Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Maryland Nurse Practitioner license
National certification in specialty area
DEA and CDS eligibility
BLS certification
ACLS certification (required for inpatient practice)
Minimum of one (1) year of Registered Nurse experience
