Job summary

University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our inpatient Palliative Care team within a high-acuity academic medical center environment. The NP will support symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and patient/family support while collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, social work, chaplaincy, and consulting services.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Nurse Practitioner licensed in Maryland.
  • National board certification required.
  • DEA and CDS registration preferred or eligible.
  • Minimum 2 years inpatient/palliative care experience preferred; strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient palliative care consultations and follow-up care.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop treatment plans.
  • Assist with symptom management and pain management strategies.
  • Facilitate goals-of-care and advance care planning discussions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Support patients and families through complex medical decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.

The Nurse Practitioner will support symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and patient/family support while collaborating closely with physicians, nursing staff, social work, chaplaincy, and consulting services.Our palliative care team plays a vital role in delivering patient-centered, evidence-based care across a diverse inpatient population within one of the region's leading academic health systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient palliative care consultations and follow-up care
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Assist with symptom management and pain management strategies
  • Facilitate goals-of-care and advance care planning discussions
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
  • Support patients and families through complex medical decision-making
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
Qualifications
  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Nurse Practitioner licensed in the state of Maryland
  • National board certification required
  • DEA and CDS registration preferred or eligible
  • Prior inpatient, palliative care, oncology, ICU, or acute care experience preferredminimum 2 years experience required; must have at least 2 years of palliative experienceStrong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
