Job summary

Legacy Health is seeking a Nocturnist Hospitalist to serve as the physician of record and trusted advocate in inpatient care. The role emphasizes collaboration with ED, nursing, and staff, supervision of trainees, and participation in teaching programs within Legacy Health’s Internal Medicine services.

The position includes teaching residents and medical students, contributing to quality improvement, and providing leadership across Legacy Health facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a U.S. medical school or equivalent.
• Residency completed in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
• Clinical experience in Internal Medicine or Family Practice preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient medical care and call coverage for the Department of Medicine.

• Supervise house-staff and clinicians and document care for billing.
• Participate in teaching and mentoring residents and medical students.

Responsibilities

Clinical Patient Care

• Provides prompt and efficient medical care, including call coverage, to patients assigned to inpatient service of the Department of Medicine as scheduled.
• Performs duties at the professional level of quality and efficiency established by Hospital.
• Collaborates with Emergency Department Clinical Staff to determine the most appropriate site of care for individual patients.
• Collaborates with physicians, nursing and administrative staff to maximize cost-effective use of clinical resources.
• Provides prompt and clear communication about patients’ admission, condition changes and discharge to clinicians responsible for outpatient care.
• Participates as a team member at patient care conferences.
• May manage the care of patients in critical care units with Intensivist support.
• Collaborates with Medical Director in scheduling.
• Employment is to the Legacy Health organization, as a whole, and therefore provides cross-coverage at other Legacy hospitals may be required.
• Supervises patient care delivered by house-staff, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and others as requested.
• Prepares accurate and timely documentation of patient care to maximize Hospital’s accurate billing and collection of services.

Teaching Duties (specific to designated Legacy sites)

• Participates in planning and formal educational program for Hospital’s Training Program in General Internal Medicine as required by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education as assigned.
• Participates in the evaluation of residents and medical students as assigned.
• Acts as faculty advisor for three to four medical residents.
• Supervises research and scholarship by housestaff.

Other Duties

• Participates and provides medical leadership on appropriate clinical committees as requested.
• Participates in the organizational operations of Legacy Health, Legacy Internal Medicine Services or the formal teaching conferences of the residency program.
• Provides physician input into improvement of quality, patient safety, and patient and family satisfaction.
• Submits billing and patient charges via electronic medical record on the day of service.
• Conducts oneself in a manner consistent with the Legacy Medical Group Guiding Principles and Preferred Provider Profile.

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of four-year U.S. Medical School or equivalent.
• Residency completed in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.

Experience:

• Clinical experience in Internal Medicine or Family Practice, preferred.

Licensure

• Board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state(s) of practice.
• Active ACLS from the American Heart Association.
• Active member in good standing of Hospital Medical Staff.
