Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, NJ is seeking a Unit Clerk to support patient care operations on the unit. The role includes receptionist duties, chart management, admissions/transfers, and coordinating communications.

You will handle patient records, transcribe orders, and ensure accurate identification and timely information flow. The position requires BLS, medical terminology, and strong communication skills; a high school diploma is required.

Qualifications

• BLS certification is required.
• Medical terminology knowledge is required.
• Good computer skills and familiarity with hospital software are expected.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
• Good interpersonal skills are necessary for patient and staff interactions.
• English reading/writing/speaking proficiency as required by the role.

Responsibilities

• Acts as unit receptionist, answering calls, greeting visitors and directing them appropriately.
• Ensures timely communication between departments by scheduling tests and relaying messages.
• Transcribes physician orders to MAR and ensures accurate charting.
• Assembles and maintains patient charts and documents in the unit records.
• Notifies staff of admissions, transfers and expirations; verifies patient identification.
• Prepares discharge and transfer arrangements and coordinates with cross-functional teams.
• Maintains unit payroll records and communicates changes to Payroll.
