Job summary

Nashville General Hospital seeks an experienced Stationary Engineer to support safe, reliable operation of essential hospital utility and building systems, including boilers, chillers, BAS, and emergency generators.

The role involves field inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and equipment rounds to ensure uninterrupted patient care. Healthcare facilities experience strongly preferred; daytime hours with on-call flexibility may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Mechanical Systems, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical field preferred.
  • 9-14 years of progressively responsible experience in stationary engineering, healthcare facilities, central plant operations, or related environments preferred.
  • Healthcare facilities experience strongly preferred.
  • Boiler Operator License preferred and/or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License required.
  • Demonstrated experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex mechanical and facility systems including HVAC, boilers, chillers, refrigeration, generators, pumps, motors, compressors, air-handling equipment, and mechanical utilities.
  • Demonstrated BAS experience, including alarms, controls, sensors, setpoints, schedules, trends, and system monitoring.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm, life-safety, emergency power, and other critical facility systems preferred.
  • Proficiency reading mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and provide emergency/after-hours support.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair critical hospital infrastructure including boilers, chillers, HVAC, air-handling and ventilation systems, refrigeration, pumps, motors, compressors, and BAS.
  • Monitor temperature, pressure, flow, level, vibration, alarms, and system status; conduct routine rounds and inspections.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance according to schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Diagnose problems, determine corrective actions, and escalate when necessary to specialized support.
  • Respond to equipment failures, utility interruptions, BAS alarms, and environmental concerns to sustain 24/7 operations.
  • Operate and monitor BAS to optimize environmental conditions and energy efficiency.
