Job summary

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, part of Tufts Medicine, is seeking a Public Safety Officer I to protect hospital assets and people. The role involves patrols, incident reporting, access control, and immediate response to crises on site.

Responsibilities include escort duties, hazard identification, and collaboration with departments to mitigate risks, while maintaining professional patient and visitor interactions at all times.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer certification within 1 year of hire.
• POST Certification or ability to obtain MA License to Carry Firearms.

Responsibilities

• Conduct internal and external patrols of facilities and grounds.
• Respond to routine and emergency calls for service and document incidents.
• Provide escorts to patients, visitors, staff and others.
• Identify security vulnerabilities and hazards and take corrective action.
• Grant access to authorized staff with ID badges displayed.
• De-escalate tense situations using verbal and nonverbal techniques.
• Investigate incidents, compile case files, and secure evidence as needed.
• Assist with emergencies and disasters, including evacuations and crowd control.
