Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a Security Officer to provide information and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff, while monitoring safety across WVU Medicine locations.

Requires a High School diploma, valid driver’s license, and healthcare security experience; training in taser, OC spray, and First Aid is required within set timelines. Strong communication and stress-management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license are required.
• BLS or HeartSaver First Aid certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• State and Federal background checks as required for regulated areas must be passed.

Responsibilities

• Maintains visibility and presence at assigned locations to assist patients, visitors and staff with information.
• Responds to requests for information in a caring, courteous manner.
• Provides physical assistance and transport services for patients, visitors and staff within WVU Medicine facilities.
• Monitors traffic flow in parking areas and enforces parking rules as needed.
• Protects people and property by helping prevent accidents, theft and vandalism.
• Performs routine building rounds and patrols of buildings and parking areas.
• Keeps written documentation of activities and incidents for supervision.
