Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking Security Officers to safeguard the campus by patrolling facilities, handling incidents, and assisting guests with directions. Officers respond to emergencies, enforce rules, and coordinate with police and fire agencies to maintain a safe environment.

A High School diploma or GED is preferred; 1 year of relevant experience is required, with 2–4 years preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Certification or vocational training may be preferred.
• 1 year of relevant experience required.
• 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Valid Ohio Driver's License; must serve 12 months probationary period from date of employment.
• Selected candidate is subject to successful completion of a psychological evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Patrol all areas of the medical center facility and communicate discrepancies to the affected or responsible persons.
• Provide directional assistance to guests and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Use empathy and assertiveness in conflict resolution and crisis intervention; engage in physical intervention with minimum force when necessary.
• Conduct initial investigations and write reports on significant incidents.
• Serve as first responders to emergencies and assist staff, patients and visitors as needed.
• Escort, lockout and jump-starting services; operate security vehicles as required.
• Coordinate with local police and fire officials and support the emergency response protocol.
