Job summary

DCH Health System seeks a Security Officer to ensure safety of patients, staff, visitors and premises on the hospital campus in Tuscaloosa, AL. The role emphasizes de-escalation, rapid emergency response, and compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies.

The officer will patrol, monitor surveillance, and assist clinical staff in non-physical interventions while maintaining a calm, respectful presence. Requires strong communication and crisis-management skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in security, law enforcement, or behavioral health preferred.
• Certification in crisis intervention or de-escalation techniques (e.g. CPI, Healthy Interventions, etc).
• CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire
• State-mandated security training or licensing within 90 days of hire
• Strong communication, observational, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situation. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and secure the premises to prevent unauthorized access or disturbances.
• Conduct regular patrols of the hospital campus on foot, by vehicle, or other means.
• Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, or incidents within the hospital.
• Assist in the prevention and de-escalation of potentially volatile situations.
• Maintain a calm and respectful presence, helping to create a secure environment.
• Observe and report any unusual patient behavior or security concerns.
• Operate and monitor surveillance systems as necessary.
• Provide detailed incident reports and security checks.
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
