Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Line Cook to support the Department of Food & Nutrition in a high-volume room service kitchen. You will prepare hot and cold menu items to order, ensuring quality, safe food handling, and proper plating within set schedules.

Responsibilities include skilled cooking methods, portion control, and adherence to dietary restrictions, with rotating shift coverage and weekend/holiday work as required. Benefits available.

Qualifications

• Two years of high‑volume Diner or Restaurant Experience required.
• Desired: Culinary degree and one year of high volume a la carte experience.
• Food Handling Certification Health Department -- City of Chicago

Responsibilities

• Prepares room service menu items in accordance with established recipes and plate presentation standards.
• Proficient in all a la carte cooking methods including sauté, grilling, broiling, frying and plating assembly.
• Uses appropriate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, maintaining quality and temperature.
• Prepares hot and cold food to order with proper garnishing and portion control.
• Adheres to diet and allergy restrictions for patient orders while preparing meals.
• Maintains clean work area and follows food-safety practices and infection control procedures.
• Documents leftovers and overproduction, labels and dates products.
• Assists in onboarding new staff and supports department operations.
• Supports in achieving timely meal service and meeting throughput benchmarks.
