Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to support the pharmacy team in Los Angeles, CA. Under licensed pharmacist supervision, you will prepare, dispense and monitor medications to ensure safe patient care on a rotating 8-hour per diem schedule.

Responsibilities include using Pyxis systems, barcode verification, inventory management, and patient counseling under supervision. Candidates must be enrolled in a pharmacy program and hold CA BOP intern status; LA Fire Life Safety training

Qualifications

• Student enrolled in a full-time accredited pharmacy school program.
• Knowledge of drug trade and generic names; pharmacy calculations.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Intern Pharmacist (CA BOP) certification.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) must be obtained within 30 days if not present.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in drug distribution and IV admixture.
• Competent in Pyxis dispensing and barcode checks.
• Maintain CII Pyxis inventory accuracy and controlled substances handling.
• Accurate preparation and dispensing of medications with pharmacist verification.
• Assist in chemotherapy preparation with closed system transfer device expertise.
• Record charges and assist billing (OR).
• Document pharmacy logs daily and support unit-dose packaging.
• Demonstrate aseptic technique and proper use of technology to triage workflow.
• Support inventory by restocking and rotating medications and supplies.
• Assist healthcare providers with calls and participate in staff education.
