Job summary

Universal Health Services is seeking a Pharmacist Intern who will work under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy to ensure compliance with legal, accreditation, and facility policies. You will participate in pharmaceutical care, counsel patients, and support medication distribution and safety within a hospital setting.

The role requires enrollment in an accredited pharmacy program and an active intern license, with preference for healthcare experience.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy.
• Active Pharmacist Intern License required.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards and OSHA regulations.
• Healthcare setting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Pharmacy and pharmacist in pharmaceutical distribution and preparation under supervision.
• Procure and dispense medications to dispensing machines/cabinets under supervision.
• Review dispensing machine reports and troubleshoot issues with pharmacist oversight.
• Communicate with physicians, nurses, and staff with appropriate professional judgment.
• Review patient medication orders and document in pharmacy software with pharmacist oversight.
• Monitor patient drug interactions and adverse reactions in coordination with the pharmacist.
• Assist formulary monitoring to improve treatment effectiveness and control costs.
• Label and dispense drugs correctly from pharmacy or Omnicell as applicable.
• Dispense narcotics and maintain inventories per state/federal regulations under supervision.
• Dispose of hazardous pharmaceutical waste under supervision.
• Ensure distribution, procurement, and clinical services within the pharmacy under supervision.
• Inspect pharmaceutical supplies and services provided by the pharmacy.
• Provide counseling and education to patients and staff, including materials and samples as needed.
• Provide Long Acting Injectable medications in-house or via outside pharmacy; educate RN on LAI.
