Job summary

Monongalia County Health Department is seeking a WIC Breastfeeding Counselor who will provide postpartum breastfeeding support in hospital and clinic settings. This role involves one-on-one counselling, education, and coordination of lactation referrals to ensure smooth transitions after discharge.

The position requires adherence to WIC and hospital policies, participation in trainings, and potential travel to hospitals and community sites to support breastfeeding initiation and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Complete WIC appointments at bedside for postpartum patients in hospital settings.
• Provide breastfeeding education and support during inpatient stays and in outpatient clinics.
• Provide one-on-one breastfeeding counselling to WIC participants and hospital patients.
• Serve as liaison between hospitals and WIC program to ensure smooth transition of breastfeeding support post-discharge.
• Conduct hospital visits to assist new mothers with breastfeeding initiation and troubleshooting.
• Educate clients on breastfeeding techniques, benefits, and problem-solving strategies.
• Coordinate referrals for lactation support and community resources.
• Maintain accurate documentation of counselling sessions and hospital interactions.
• Assist with breast pump distribution and instruction.
• Participate in breastfeeding promotion activities and community outreach events.
• Ensure compliance with WIC and hospital policies regarding breastfeeding support.
• Attend required trainings and communicate updates to staff.
