Job summary

The Salisbury VA Medical Center, part of the Facilities Management Service Construction Crew, is seeking a full-time Maintenance Mechanic with journeyman skills to perform carpentry, masonry, plastering, painting, roofing and related trades to maintain hospital buildings.

Reports to the Supervisor and works indoors/outdoors with safety as a priority. Must read blueprints, plan from drawings, and operate hand and power tools; lifting up to 100 lb; schedule Mon-Thu 12:00 pm–10:30 pm.

Qualifications

• Experience in carpentry, masonry, plastering, painting and roofing.
• Ability to read technical manuals and blueprints.
• Knowledge of hospital facilities procedures and safety.
• Capability to plan work from drawings and specifications.
• Willingness to perform varied maintenance tasks in a care environment.

Responsibilities

• Construct, install, repair, and modify wood structures and related items.
• Install and repair roofing materials and associated structures.
• Install exterior/interior surfaces using brick, tile, cement, stone, wood, laminate.
• Operate carpentry and woodworking tools to produce precise fits.
• Read and interpret manuals, guides, and blueprints.
• Plan layouts from drawings and maintain tools and equipment.
• Maintain compliance with safety regulations and universal precautions.
• Oversee materials and tool requisition; coordinate with the shop.
• Work schedule: Full time - Mon-Thu 12:00 pm – 10:30 pm.
