Job summary

Kindred Hospital El Paso is a long-term acute care facility focusing on recovery after critical illness. The culinary assistant role prepares and serves meals ensuring proper food handling, safety and nutrition per patient diet orders.

Responsibilities include following standardized recipes and menus, stocking and labeling food, performing kitchen sanitation, and assisting at the cafe cashier station with cash handling. Requires fluent English and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and speak fluent English.
• Must have good and regular attendance.
• Knowledge of therapeutic diets and texture/liquid modification.
• Knowledge of safe food handling.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and city food codes and regulations.
• Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn menu management system.
• Understand principles of growth and development for the entire life span with the ability to provide care appropriate to the population.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist in food preparation following recipes and policies.
• Serve food per patient diet orders and follow menus.
• Follow standardized menus for patients and cafeteria food.
• Record changes to menus and use production sheets for quantities.
• Prepare foods to meet meal times and FDA temperature standards.
• Prepare patient snacks and label/distribute timely.
• Label, date, store food properly, assist in receiving supplies.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and proper infection control.
• Operate equipment safely and report issues promptly.
• Work at cafe cashier station, balance cash drawer, and process payments per policy.
